Frequently asked questions

How much does a singing bowl weigh for shipping?

A large singing bowl of about 20 to 25 cm usually weighs 1.2 to 2.2 kg before packing. Bowls are dense, so for bowls the real weight, not the box size, usually sets the price.

Why is my pashmina parcel billed heavier than it weighs?

Couriers bill the higher of the real weight and the volumetric weight, which is length × breadth × height in cm ÷ 5000. Shawls and blankets are light but bulky, so roll or vacuum pack them to keep the box small.

Should I ship a thangka in a box or a tube?

A rolled thangka ships cheapest in its own rigid tube. A box long enough for the tube is mostly air, and you pay for that air as volumetric weight. The estimator splits the tube out when that is cheaper.

Where do these weights come from?

Rough ranges Hyre put together from typical souvenirs sold in Kathmandu and Pokhara and common courier box sizes. Not an official or authoritative source. Weigh and measure your real parcel before you book.

What counts as a small, medium or large parcel?

Small parcel: up to 2 kg billed. Medium parcel: up to 10 kg billed. Large parcel: up to 30 kg billed. Anything heavier is cargo-size.
